META Equestrian Centre, Murcia

The center provides a range of services including hacking in the countryside, riding for the disabled, basic skills development, dressage, show jumping and competitive preparation. Meta is fully bilingual and all teaching staff are fully qualified. There is a popular pony club for young riders who learn all aspects of horse management. Another popular venture for youngsters are the weekend stay-overs available at the center. Open 7 days a week.

Nature Walk, La Murta Observatory & Nature reserve, Corvera, Murcia

A pleasant walk to the observatory followed by excellent refreshments & tapas.

Directions: From A30 (Cartagena/Murcia motorway) take MU601 towards the town of Corvera. Drive through town. At outskirts of town, turn right at a dip in the road (signposted Meson Romeria), take next right towards the Golf Resort & follow the purple sign posts for La Murta Observatory. Do not enter the golf resort, but continue into the countryside and a signpost will direct you to turn right onto earth road (excellent road surface to the observatory). Follow this road into the foothills of the Carrascoy Mountain range until you reach the observatory which is on your right. There is ample parking at observatory. Absorb the wonderful mountain views, forest hills and valleys towards the Mar Menor in the distance. Walk along the dirt track further into the foothills, as far as you wish to walk – half an hour or a couple of hours…

After your walk, drive back to Corvera town, park about 200yrds after you have turned left back into the town. Turn left and walk up one of the side streets to Calle Mayor turn right and follow this road until you come across a small square, with a fountain & trailing vines. Here you will find Bar Las Palmeras, serving a warm welcome and a wonderful selection of home prepared tapas along with the usual refreshments. Visit on a Sunday morning and the local weekly market is in full swing in Calle Mayor.

Gentle guided nature walks through the Sierra Espuña mountain range, near Murcia. Regular walks are arranged by Louisa and booking a place is essential. The walks are fun and informative with plenty of time for photos. Usually a couple of hours in length finished off by a fabulous menu del dia at a restaurant deep in the Sierra woodland. If you are lucky, you may see wild boar feeding beside the restaurant. Emphasis is on the social activity of meeting new people, enjoying the local countryside and cuisine.
